Before submitting your event, please CLICK HERE to read an important notice about changes to the community calendar submission process.
Please do not enter in ALL CAPS and do not check All Day for time (just set a start time and end time ONLY.)

NOTICE TO ALL EVENT SUBMITTERS:

 The Sun is revising the calendar events for both online and print. All events must be entered through our website. It's easy. Go to www.yoursun.com and click on the "Community Calendar" link on the left. Click "Submit Event," and fill out the appropriate information. The "Content for print edition" area of the form is for information intended for the print edition of the paper. Information outside of the this area will appear online only. Please don't repeat the "Event Title" as that will be included automatically.

 We will print a maximum of four lines per event (the Event Title plus 34 characters for the next three lines, to be included in the "Content for print edition" field) at no cost to the event submitter. This change will give our readers a broader range of community events.

 You may, however, request additional space for a small fee. Please
CLICK HERE for the price and process of submitting a longer event. All paid events will run in the location(s) designated for the event type.

 If you do not have the ability to enter your events via our website, we can type them in on your behalf at the rate of $5 per event, per community (this fee does not guarentee placement in any print products.

 Be sure to review the GUIDELINES to help ensure you get the most information in without exceeding the line limit.

The Sun reserves the right to exclude any submitted event that does not meet our specifications or that requires excessive editing. There is no expressed or implied guarantee that any free event will be included in any event calendar or run in any specific location. This is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Guidelines - Event Submission TIPS

 Be sure to include what your print readers want to know in the "Content for print edition" field. This field and the Event title hold the only content that will go to the printed edition.

  • The event title will already be included so don't waste space repeating it in the area.
  • Time, date, location, include street address and city
    times should look like this: 8-9 a.m., 11 a.m.-noon; noon-4 p.m., 6-8 p.m.
  • Specific details about events - food, entertainment, activities
    Include a contact phone number and email if possible.

A few helpful examples:

(The bold text is the event title that is automatically
included in your listing for print.)


“Flick & Float”, 7-11 p.m. at the North Port
Family YMCA pool, 5930 Sam Shapos Way, near Dallas White Park. Open
swim and one lap lane, as well as organized games for about two hours.
Participants will then watch the movie “Toy Story 3.” Bring bathing
suits, a change of clothing, towels, and any chairs, blankets or
pillows to use while watching the film. Bug spray recommended. Cost,
$5 per family. Popcorn, drinks, pizza, hot dogs and other concessions
available. No outside food or drinks. 429-2088.

“Back 2 School Bash,” 6 p.m. at 13000 Tamiami
Trail. Backpacks filled with school supplies will be given away, as
well as haircuts, vision screenings, hot dogs, sno-cones, cotton candy
and popcorn. Bounce houses for kids. Free; open to the community.

Back-to-school event, 2-6 p.m. at Artistica Nail & Spa,
14822 Tamiami Trail in the North Port Commons. Artistica is offering
free manicures and pedicures, with a trim and polish, for students 11
years old and younger. The salon and the “Back Pack Angels” are
collecting items for homeless students. Bring toiletries to donate
like shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and other personal-care
items. Children must be accompanied by an adult. 426-2949.


Farmers/Craft Market, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at
North Port Place Shopping Center on U.S. 41, near Burger King and
Blinds Galore and More. Featuring organic and other produce, herbs,
hot dogs and Italian sausage, fresh fish, baked goods, kettle corn,
candies and nuts, jellies and jams, crafts, flowers and plants, pet
items, soaps, jewelry, goods sold by home-based businesses. 240-6100.

Summer Film Festival, 12:30-4 p.m. at the North Port
Library, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail. Feature film about cooking to be
shown. The Juliano Room will be open at noon, 30 minutes before the
movie begins, so participants can share recipes, eat brown bag
lunches, or just talk about food, restaurants or whatever. Last day.
Free; open to the public. To find out which title will be shown, call

Free Programs, Landscape assistance, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the North Port Library conference room, 13800 S. Tamiami Trail, North Port. Want to
learn more about native plants, butterfly gardens or citrus trees?
Need a plant or insect identified? Get one-on-one assistance from the
Master Gardeners. Provided through a partnership with the Sarasota
County Cooperative Extension Service. 861-1310.

Jam sessions, (Acoustic) 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the gazebo along the
Cocoplum Waterway on Sumter Boulevard, just south of St. Paul’s
Presbyterian Church. From Sumter, turn onto McKibben Avenue (Country
Club Ridge), make the first right onto Peace Street, then park at the
end of the road. All levels of acoustic guitar players welcome. Bring
a chair and come to play, sing or just listen. 426-9752.

Blood drive, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank, 18120 Tamiami Trail,

PAID Listings cost:

The cost for submitting a paid listing to the community calendar will be $10 per listing, per day, per community. (Example: One event listing for Charlotte ONLY is $10, if you want it in Sunday through Saturday the cost will be $70; One event for one day in Charlotte, plus printed in Englewood will be $20, if you want it in Sunday through Saturday the cost will be $140, etc.)

What do you get for a PAID submission?

  • Each PAID listing will be featured at the top of the Community Calendar in the print edition of the paper. (PAID Listings are currently only available in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood and North Port papers). More options will be available soon.

  • Includes 40 characters for the Event Title and 300 characters in the “Print edition text”

  • May include one photo or logo with the event, viewable on the online calendar only (not in the printed calendar).

NOTE: All events should be submitted via this online form. Any events the newspaper staff enters for you will cost an additional $5 to enter.
