Alligator drops by for unwelcome visit

An alligator keeps an eye on a photographer and neighbors who were keeping an eye on him, or her. The gator took a break in this carport on Rohr Drive Tuesday morning. A trapper arrived later to remove the unwelcome visitor.

Neighbors of home owner Kaji Lightsey, along with Bartow Police Officer Gwen Jones, keep an eye on an alligator that came calling and curled up in the carport on Rohr Drive. The gator probably came from the Peace River, as there is a tributary and swampy area not far from the neighborhood. Two gators were trapped last year across the street at the Rohr Home.

Friends and neighbors of Kaji Lightsey (second from right) keep a watch on her carport where a six-foot gator stopped for a rest after apparently walking to Rohr Drive from Peace River. Behind, from left, Shirley Harris, Amber White, Chris Harris and Molly Ammons is the Rohr Home, where two similar-sized alligators were trapped last year.
When Kaji Lightsey and her mother returned to their home on Rohr Drive in Bartow Tuesday morning, they noticed something in the carport that shouldn’t have been there.
It was a six-foot alligator that took refuge in the corner of the carport behind a table and chairs.
