ST. AUGUSTINE (AP) — Prosecutors say St. Johns County Sheriff’s deputies were justified in fatally shooting a northeast Florida hospice nurse during a domestic call.

After a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation, the Seventh Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office determined that the officers who fired at Andrea Sheldon in April were justified in the use of deadly force. The St. Augustine Record obtained the state attorney’s report through a public records request.

The sheriff’s office said Sheldon, 46, came out of her mobile home April 14 and aimed a shotgun at deputies responding to a call about a despondent man in the nearby woods.

An autopsy found that Sheldon had taken a prescription painkiller and her blood alcohol content was above Florida’s legal limit for drivers. She was shot six times.
