County budget unanimously approved
For all intents and purposes, the Polk County Commissioners unanimous vote approving the Fiscal Year 2012-13 $1.31 billion budget was anticlimactic. For yet another year, there will be no increases in the millage rate.
The budget is a $20.4 million reduction from 2011-12 budget. According to a July 10 letter from the County Manager’s office, the reduction “reflects the continuing sluggish economic recover, lower property values, and spending down of reserves set aside for capital projects.”
