TAMPA (AP) — Tampa Police have charged a man with child neglect after they say he brought his two young children with him to buy drugs.

Authorities said Jonathan Kelly loaded his 1-year-old and 4-year-old children into the car Saturday, then headed to meet a former high school acquaintance to buy some prescription pills. But the sellers had another plan.

Tampa Police said the acquaintance and his female friend hit Kelly in the face, stole $60 and fled.

Kelly called police to report the robbery.

The two suspects were charged with strong-armed robbery and later apprehended.

The children were unharmed and released to Kelly’s parents.
