firefighters to wear pink

Firefighters at the Bartow Fire Department wore pink shirts last week to honor Breast Cancer Month. They are taking part in the Making Strides Against Cancer Walk scheduled this weekend at Mosaic Park. From left is John Calandros, Kenny Miles, Jeff Burnett, Jimmy Schaill and David Spangler.
This month EMS, Fire Rescue and Public Safety organizations nationwide are participating in the “Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign; a breast cancer awareness initiative and on Oct. 16-18 Polk County Fire Rescue members will make breast cancer awareness a local initiative.
Instead of our patriotic blend of red, white and blue uniforms, pink shirts will become the uniform of the day. United behind this cause, the symbolism of the color pink will prevail above rank, roles and affiliations. Over the three-day period, visibility and solidarity for the cause will complement our mission priorities. Polk County Fire Rescue “Cares Enough to Wear Pink.”
