Whip-cracking festival

Though it was off-limits to get onto the tractors that were on display, Robert Smith made an exception Saturday for Hayden Johnson, 2, who got on board the 1959 Ford 881. His mother, Candra, snaps a picture of him on the collectible. Smith said he'd just gotten the tractor painted this past week.

The winners of the whip-cracking contest won trophies Saturday at the 24th annual Cracker Storytelling Festival. From left include adult division second place winner, Chris Beggs (red trophy) and Drew Hall for first place. In the high school division, Benjamin Hamm (front) won third, Ryan Walkldman won second nad Jessee Sansom won first place. In the middle division, Riley Albritton won third, Krysta Stanton won second and Grayson Walman won first place. In the elementary division, Cody Sherrouse won third, Matthew Edmondson won second and Josiah Waldman won first place.

Robert Smith takes his Ford 8N tractor, built in 1951 back to the truck to drive home Saturday after the 24th annual Cracker Storytelling Festival in Homeland Heritage Park. He and Greg Rawls displayed a handful of recrafted tractors at the fair Friday and Saturday, much to the delight of those who attended.
