Both Polk County Board of Commissioners and City of Bartow Commissioners face light agendas when each august body meets Tuesday, Jan. 22. Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday (and parade in downtown Bartow), city commissioners have moved their meeting from Monday, Jan. 21 to Tuesday, Jan. 22; it normally meets the first and third Monday of each month. Jan. 21 also will be Inauguration Day, as President Barak Obama will be sworn in for a second term in office.

The major item on the county’s agenda will be under County Attorney Michael Craig’s section, and is the fifth item on the agenda. It will be to approve the settlement agreement and release of claims between Republic Services of Florida, LLP, and Polk County. It involves a $1.5 million payment by the solid waste hauler to the county for overbilling.
