As if public schools don’t have enough on their collective plates, new figures released by the Florida Department of Education Wednesday show that overall school scores in Florida dropped, and that includes Polk County.

Two Polk schools, Shelley S. Boone and Lake Alfred Addair middle schools received failing grades, under the new criteria in place this year. There were 47 “F” schools throughout Florida, as opposed to 31 last year. The number of “A” rated elementary, middle and combination schools dropped from 1,481 to 1,124.
