In growing numbers, vacationers and day-trippers are looking for windows into the small and medium-sized towns they pass through on the way to major tourist attractions.

It was the consensus of the Polk historic community Oct. 17 that it’s time to catalog the local artifacts, documents and historic sites that enrich Polk County, map them and share them with visitors. Eco/Heritage tourism is on the uptick.
