We’ve never been big fans of temporary suspensions of impact fees, mainly because there is scant evidence the policy lives up to its billing as a development incentive. The broad nature of the moratoriums also removes a potential economic development tool from the county’s toolbox if it wanted to sweeten an incentive package for a particular industry or business.

The Polk County Commission recently extended the moratorium on impact fees for another 18 months.
