Polk County residents with medical conditions that require assistanceduring disasters, such as hurricanes, may be eligible for the county’s Special Needs Shelter program. This service, provided by Polk County Emergency Management, shelters and transports residents with medical or physical conditions that have no other options. This includes those who are dependent on medical electrical equipment that require assistance during an emergency.
Those eligible include residents who live in mobile homes, unstable home site structures or areas of the county subject to flooding. Eligible persons, regardless of age, include those who:
