Holiday happenings set Saturday

Contestants in last years Little Miss and Mister Firecracker event brought a colorful touch to the pavillion stage at the Fort Meade Outodoor Recreation Area. This year's event will be held Saturday.

Fort Meade’s official observance of the Independence Day weekend will be Saturday at the Outdoor Recreation area on U.S. 98, starting at 9 a.m. and running through mid afternoon.

Highlights of the day include the Fort Meade Junior Woman’s Club auction starting at 9 a.m., and the bathtub regatta at 1 p.m.

Also on the agenda is the special patriotic program starting at noon in the pavilion as part of the “Old Town” Independence Day celebration. That ceremony will include a performance by Shawna Green as well as the First Baptist Church puppeteers.

The Little Miss and Mister Firecreacker competition will start registering youngsters at 10:30 a.m. with that event set to start at 11 a.m. It is open to infants and children up to age 10.

The auction will have a number of items up for grabs, including: $500 in “Republic” bucks good towards a dumpster from Republic Services which recently took over the city trash hauling contract, as well as a grill that they have donate.

Also on the list: An oil change from Greenwood Chevrolet, Oral B toothbrush from Dr. Bob Fort, a round of golf for two from Torrey Oaks, a variety of plants from Sunshine Growers, hair product from Catch-A-Wave Salon, ice packs from Dr. Roger Haag, a $50 gift certificate from Dr. Lori Shank at the Fort Meade Animal Clinic, a flagpole set with flag from Ace Hardware and four buffet gift certificates from Fred’s Kitchen.

Also: “Luv Shack” candle baskets from Helpmates, one oil change and two car details from Jenkins Ford, a honey basket from Bell Apiaries, two $10 gift cards to Beef O’Brady’s, two extra large cheese pizzas from Palace Pizza, $25 in gas from Barnett’s, a bracelet from Andre’s, five $10 gift certificates from Double RR Cafe, an airplane bank from R & S pawn, dinner for two at John’s Miners Den Drive In, and a glass top dining table with seven matching chairs from A-Keck Boost Mobile.
