Man charged with child abuse after near drowning
NEW PORT RICHEY (AP) — Authorities have charged a Florida man with aggravated child abuse after a 14-month-old boy nearly drowned.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reports 39-year-old Kevin Geddes was swinging the child in the yard of his New Port Richey home Saturday evening. Investigators
say Geddes appeared to be inebriated and fell
into a canal adjacent
to the yard with the toddler.
Geddes reportedly refused help from witnesses. The child began taking in water and appeared to be drowning.
Deputies say a witness jumped into the canal and saved the toddler. The child was given CPR and regained consciousness.
The young boy was taken to All Children’s Hospital and is expected to recover.
