Arts Center renovation well under way

Renovation work has begun in earnest at the Lake Wales Art Center, soon to house art classes for Polk State College, Lake Wales. The college will share space with the Arts Council still for their office and for special events.

The long-awaited face-lift ushering in Polk State College’s new art classrooms is under way. The Lake Wales Arts Center on Highway 60, long home to the Arts Council, will house a number of classes for the college under an agreement and transfer earlier this year.

The cost associated with upkeep and maintenance of the building had become prohibitive, council president Barbara Connor said at the time, and the rapidly growing Lake Wales branch of Polk State needed art space. It was a winning proposition.
