First grade teachers and arts teachers gathered Friday (Sept. 28) for a special training in theater and literature skills, as part of a new partnership between the Lake Wales Charter Schools and Polk State College. Over the next several months, artist-educator Ilene Fins (facing camera) is working with the teachers to create and implement a lesson that culminates in a live student performance of selected literature. The student performances will take place in May 2013 at the PSC Lake Wales Arts Center, which is currently undergoing extensive renovation. Polk Avenue Elementary is hosting the professional development trainings.
