Shots weren’t fired, but the replica cannon from the USS Constitution was engaged in conflict on its final journey to the Lake Wales Depot Museum last Monday morning. A vehicle allegedly
ran a red light and hit the trailer hauling the cannon as Daryl Nowling, of Blew Bayou Fabrications, who was providing free hauling to and from his shop, was turning right off Scenic Highway 17 into the Depot.
“Please, tell me it didn’t fall off the trailer,” Nowling recounted about his first thoughts when heard a loud crash. “It was an eerie feeling because I was already worried about hitting the bridge and didn’t know what had happened.”
