This crash involved a child, only the child was in the driver’s seat, according to police reports.

Lake Wales Police are continuing the investigation into a two-vehicle crash that involved a child at 1064 Hiawatha Ave. in Lake Wales last Tuesday. Lake Wales Police Department Deputy Chief Troy Schulze said the driver of a Chevrolet pickup truck backed into a residence and exited the vehicle to remove items from the back of the truck. Witnesses at the scene said the child in the truck was 18 months old. Schulze noted the child allegedly climbed into the driver’s seat and was able to move the gear shifter out of park into neutral or drive. According to reports, the vehicle rolled forward and collided into a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer which was parked at 1061 Hiawatha Ave. “As a result of the impact there was airbag deployment in the pickup,” said Schulze. The child was taken to Lake Wales Medical Center to be evaluated and was released with no serious injuries.
