Welcome to the world, Sloan Riley Detz, the first baby born in Polk County in 2013. Sloan, the daughter of Casey and Chris Detz (pronounced Deetz), was born at 1:29 a.m., New Year’s Day, weighing 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and measuring 19 ¾ inches, is the couple’s first child. She was delivered at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

She was not due for delivery until this Saturday, Jan. 6, said Chris, when Casey would have a Caesarian section performed. A C-section was the medical procedure the couple’s physician, Dr. Diana Wilson, called for, because the baby was “low lying” in the womb.
