Edwin J. ‘Ed’ Hughes

Edwin J. “Ed” Hughes, 93, of Lake Wales passed away Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Water’s Edge.

He was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Pennsylvania to the late James and Ada Hughes; and he came here from Tallahassee in 1963.

Ed was the former president of SunTrust Bank in Lake Wales and a former general manager at Nalcrest for many years.

He was also a past president of Kiwanis, past president of the Lake Wales County Club, served on the Vanguard School Board and the former board of directors at the Lake Wales Hospital. He was an avid FSU fan and enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Winifred T. “Wynn” Hughes; a daughter, Carolyn Barnhardt of Lake Wales; two sons, David R. Hughes of Lake Wales and James W. “Jimmy” Hughes (Jean) of Havana; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales and the memorial service is 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Lake Wales with Father Thomas C. Seitz officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823.
