CAPE HAZE — Charlotte County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit detectives, assisted by the SWAT team, Street Crimes Unit, Traffic and K9 Units, raided a Cape Haze home in the 500 block of Coral Creek Drive at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. CCSO Narcotics detectives obtained a search warrant following an ongoing investigation that led to the forced entry by SWAT. The four who lived in the home were Joshua Nicholas Hearns, 25; his brother, Xavier J. Hearns, 23; Christine Anne Kovari, 26; and 26-year-old Reshay Renard Melton. Also arrested was Brittany Michelle Wyatt, 20, of Englewood.

Once the five were removed from the home, detectives began their search. In the bedroom of Joshua Hearns and his girlfriend, Kovari, they located cocaine, a digital scale, boxes of Zip-Lock baggies, several small baggies with residue, marijuana, a cut straw with cocaine residue, and $6,130 in cash. In Xavier Hearns’ and Wyatt’s bedroom detectives found marijuana and a baggie with cocaine residue. In Melton’s bedroom they found marijuana and a Glock 10mm handgun, an ammunition box full of AK-47 ammunition, and the magazine for the AK-47. CCSO checked the Glock and learned it was stolen out of DeSoto County. The gun investigation continues. All five were transported to the Charlotte County Jail. Joshua Hearns, Kovari, and Xavier Hearns were all charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wyatt was charged with possession of marijuana, and Melton was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Joshua Hearns, Xavier Hearns and Melton are all convicted felons and are being held on no bond. Bond is $4,500 for Kovari and $1,000 for Wyatt.
