Major events in Charlotte County this weekend may have brought increased traffic and restaurant wait times, but they also brought cold, hard cash. Though numbers are not yet available, local business owners said events like the Florida Golden Gloves Championships boxing tournament and International Association for Disabled Sailing Worlds
Championship gave Charlotte County an economic jumpstart.

Golden Gloves had 200 competitors from all over Florida, ages 10 to 40. The 10 champs from each weight class will go on to the national competition in Nevada. Matches were held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and executive director Mark Streisand estimated the event drew 500
spectators each day.
