Man dies in wreck
A 68-year-old man died in a crash Tuesday after he lost control of his car and crashed into a utility pole in Port Charlotte. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a 2002 Toyota Camry, driven by 68-year-old William Pickowitz of Rotonda West, was traveling northbound on US-41 near Port Charlotte Boulevard around 4:30 p.m., when, for an unknown reason, it drifted off the roadway and then struck a steel utility pole head-on. Pickowitz was taken to Peace River Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The crash is under investigation.
