Dee Roberts grew up surrounded by animals. An only child, her parents made sure she wasn’t lonely by filling the house with a wide variety of pets.

She has focused her career on working with animals, too, as executive director of an animal shelter and sanctuary, and later as founder of the Cell Dog program at the Charlotte County Jail.
