PINE ISLAND (AP) — Mosquito control departments throughout the state are preparing for Tropical Storm Isaac.
Helicopters sprayed through the air over Pine Island and Little Pine Island in Lee County just after dawn Friday. The Fort Myers News Press reports recent rain has produced mosquito populations in parts of the area. Meanwhile, neighboring Collier County is seeing fewer mosquitoes.
This week in Volusia County, a mosquito
control helicopter sprayed 800 pounds of insecticide. The Daytona Beach News Journal reports that the mosquito control operations in the county run $3 million per year.
Isaac could help increase the mosquito population throughout the state, which has already seen soggy weather this week.
