While Sarasota County’s cases remained relatively unchanged, the number of new foreclosure filings in Charlotte County jumped by double-digit percentage points in August, the second month in a row the county reported an increase in new cases.

Still, housing experts remained optimistic, saying the real estate scene across Southwest Florida — and the state in general — is looking better than it has in a long time, despite fluctuations in the distressed-property market.
