The developer behind a plan to create an arts and entertainment district in Murdock Village has withdrawn from the project, saying he couldn’t garner the financial backing needed to bring it to life.

Jay Goldberg, the principal of Main Stage Development — the group behind a $200 million proposal to convert 100 acres of county-owned land in Murdock Village into a Branson, Mo.-style entertainment hub — submitted a formal letter of withdrawal last week to the county’s Economic Development office.
