Sarasota County approves EEZ residency bonus
SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County Commission voted to incorporate residency-bonus incentive provisions in state Energy Economic Zone program guidelines in a 3-2 vote Wednesday.
The EEZ program was adopted by the commission in June and is both an economic-incentive and sustainability tool that promotes technology and “green” businesses, aimed at companies that make products designed to have a greater efficiency. It’s related to the county’s green business partnership program, where companies have been certified for conducting themselves in a more energy-efficient manner. New businesses that take part in the EEZ program can receive as much as $300,000 in state credits, refunds and exemptions. Tax-credit incentives also are available, based on the number of jobs created.
