Tampa Bay Rays player Brandon Guyer, left, and his attorney, Sean Conahan, prepare for a hearing at the Charlotte County Justice Center Sept. 12. Guyer was petitioning the court for the return of his Dodge Durango, the vehicle allegedly used in a DUI hit-and-run accident involving Guyer's teammate Matt Bush in March.
PUNTA GORDA — Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court Judge John Duryea gave the state 30 more days to complete its examination of a Dodge Durango, a key piece of evidence in the spring DUI hit-and-run crash involving Tampa Bay Rays minor league pitcher Matt Bush, before the vehicle will revert to owner Brandon Guyer, a teammate and onetime roommate of Bush’s.
Duryea had granted a previous 30-day period in July because the State Attorney’s Office argued that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement needed more time to examine the evidence. But as Guyer’s attorney, Sean Conahan, told the court on Wednesday at the Charlotte County Justice Center, the vehicle has become a financial burden on Guyer, who is currently assigned to the Rays’ AAA affiliate Durham Bulls in Durham, N.C.
