Group urges home drug tests
Drug Free Charlotte County is hoping a new campaign, called Verify Truth, which urges parents to drug test their children at home, will curb marijuana use among teens in the county, but some parents are wondering if the initiative is intrusive and unnecessary.
Amity Chandler, executive director of DFCC, a nonprofit organization that works to prevent drug abuse among teens, said the tests are a response to an uptick in marijuana use among local teens and have so far proved popular. Drug Free Charlotte has had over 500 requests for the test, Chandler said, which it gives out free to the public.
