The developer behind a controversial proposal to build a regional landfill on agriculture land in eastern Charlotte County has placed its application on hold to address concerns from rural landowners who are adamantly opposed to the project.

Attorney Geri Waksler, who represents Calusa Green LLC, the group behind the proposed landfill, said the developer requested a continuance on an application to rezone 554 acres of agricultural land near Babcock Ranch in order to build a landfill that would accept garbage and biosolids from surrounding communities, including DeSoto, Collier and Hendry counties.
