Sarasota School Board opposes Amendment 8
SARASOTA COUNTY — The Sarasota County School Board unanimously voted Tuesday night to support the Florida
School Boards Association in its opposition to
Amendment 8, which will appear on the Nov. 6 general election ballot.
According to the League of Women Voters of Florida website, the amendment to Article I, Section 3 of the Florida Constitution would repeal a 126-year-old provision prohibiting taxpayer funding of religious institutions. The provision maintains that state funds not be spent “directly or indirectly” in support of any entity that promotes religion. If passed, the amendment would remove that prohibition.
