ENGLEWOOD EAST — Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives filed more charges against a South Gulf Cove man after solving a grand theft case that occurred Aug. 22 in Englewood East. Charged was Donald Robert Costa, 39, of the 10400 block of New Brunswick Street. Costa had lived with a 29-year-old woman and her 49-year-old mother on Bensonhurst Lane. When he moved out Aug. 22, the mother found her gold jewelry missing. Detectives checked the Pawn Finder system and found that Costa had sold jewelry items for $250 at a Port Charlotte pawn shop Aug. 22, the same day he moved out. The owner positively identified the stolen gold jewelry as hers.

Thursday, in another case, detectives arrested and charged Costa with trafficking in buprenorphine, burglary, grand theft and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with stealing items Tuesday from a friend’s El Jobean home while she was in jail, and an incident at Town Center Mall, where he had the illegal drugs in his possession. CCSO detectives served the new charges of grand theft, dealing in stolen property and giving false verification of ownership to a pawn broker on Costa at the Charlotte County Jail, where he remains on no bond due to his prior criminal history. Costa is a convicted felon with seven bookings.
