A Charlotte High School student was home with his great-grandmother when she became injured after a fall and was not able to get up. Dade Austin, a senior at CHS, went to a neighbor’s home for help. His great-grandmother was taken to the hospital, where she remained for several days.

Dade was presented with the Do the Right Thing award by the Punta Gorda Police Department. The program, which began in 1995, is a local effort to instill positive attitudes and self-esteem in local youth by publicly recognizing them for their achievements, whether their accomplishments involve academics, athletics, community service, conservation, or any other effort where a child is trying his best.
