GROVE CITY — A Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputy arrested a Grove City man for oxycodone found in his pants pocket. The subject then said, “Oh, wait, these aren’t my pants!” Arrested for possession of oxycodone and possession of drug paraphernalia was James Edwin White, 30, of the 2900 block of Waterside Drive, Grove City. The deputy was patroling Monday at 3:44 p.m. and observed a man on a bicycle at Ninth Street and Kentucky Avenue in Grove City. The deputy, who is familiar with the area, did not recognize the man and due to recent burglaries in that area, stopped the man identified as White. The deputy said White’s hands were shaking. He was also trembling and stuttered as well. White was asked if he had anything illegal on his person and he replied no. He was then asked if he could search him for any illegal weapons or drugs and he said, “Go ahead.”

When the deputy began his search he saw White shifting items around in his front pocket and was told to stop, which he did. The deputy again asked if he had anything illegal on him. He replied he did not and gave permission to search him. Inside his right side pocket White had reached into, the deputy found a cellophane wrapper with nine oxycodone pills. Just as the deputy found the pills, White stated, “Oh, wait, these aren’t my pants!” White told the deputy the pants belonged to his uncle and he didn’t know his uncle kept pills in his pants. A further search of White found a cut blue straw commonly used to snort narcotics; the straw had a powdery residue inside. White was arrested and en route to the jail he kept telling the deputy that the pants were his uncle’s and he had just thrown them on. The bicycle was taken to the District One office for safekeeping. White posted a $3,500 bond and was released.
