PUNTA GORDA — Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Punta Gorda man in connection with a vehicle burglary Aug. 20 at the Pop Warner football field. Arrested was Pheneathius Sharbrail Brown, 19, of the 800 block of Hazel Avenue. A CCSO deputy went under cover in the parking lot area after several vehicle burglaries were reported during football practice hours. The deputy observed a male subject walk up to a pickup carrying a Jack Link’s Beef Jerky bag and attempt to open a tool box in the bed which was locked. The subject then entered the pickup, stayed inside for a while, then exited and closed the door; he was still carrying the bag. The subject then got into the backseat of a woman’s car and they drove off.

The owner and his son returned to the pickup and the deputy advised that he witnessed a subject get into his unlocked pickup. Luckily, the owners wallet inside was not taken, but some coins were. Minutes later the deputy saw the same subject back in the area and followed him to the concession stand. He identified himself as a deputy and escorted him back to the parking lot. The subject attempted to pull away twice and finally pushed the deputy in a muddy area causing him to slip and fall; Brown took off running and got away. The deputy then located three teens that saw the incident and they identified the man who fled as Brown. A records check on Brown showed he was on felony probation and had a 10 p.m. curfew. Deputies sat near his home to see if he would return. He did not and a warrant for his arrest was issued; Brown was located and arrested Tuesday evening. He was charged with burglary to an unoccupied conveyance (pickup), resisting an officer, and petit theft. He was taken to the Charlotte County Jail, where he remains on no bond. This is Brown’s third arrest. He was one of four men involved in a home invasion armed robbery Sept. 3, 2011 in South Punta Gorda Heights. Three of them fled after the owner shot and critically wounded one of them.
