PUNTA GORDA — Constable Neil Moulton steadied his dog, Nitro, as he waited to be called for the next phase of the U.S. Police Canine Association’s National Field Trials at Carmalita Field on Thursday, the final day of competition.

This particular part of the competition involved apprehension of a suspect — with gunfire added to the mix to see if the dogs would respond correctly.
