Take Stock in Children of Charlotte County will present its inaugural Strides for Education 5K Walk/Run at 8 a.m. Dec. 8 at Charlotte Sports Park.

The event is part of a statewide effort to raise college funds for Florida’s low-income and at-risk youth.

Strides For Education is the perfect way to involve the local community in our efforts and help raise funding for our Charlotte County scholars who desire to earn a postsecondary
education,” said Mary Fred Clemmons, executive director of Take Stock in Children of Charlotte County. “Our goal is to continue growing our program each year so that we may support even more students along the path to success.”

The Strides for Education 5K Walk/Run is open to families, companies and local organizations. Registration is $25 per person, with all proceeds to benefit Take Stock in Children, a statewide nonprofit that helps low-income and at-risk youth break the cycle of poverty by providing scholarships, mentors and hope. Take Stock in Children of Charlotte County serves 60 students in grades 8-12 annually.

Take Stock in Children needs participants, volunteers and sponsors for this event, which is part of a statewide effort. For information, call 941-255-0808 ext. 3113, or visit www.CharlotteSchool
