VALRICO — David Gardner finished third to lead the North Port High boys cross country team to a second-place finish in the District 4A-7 meet Thursday at Newsome High.

Gardner finished in 17:22.97 to help North Port qualify for next Saturday’s regionals at MacIntosh Middle School in Sarasota. William Castrovince was North Port’s other top-10 finisher, taking sixth (17:32.47).
