DNA match nets theft arrest
ENGLEWOOD — Charlotte County Sheriff’s detectives arrested a convicted felon Wednesday after a perfect DNA match identified him as the burglar of Beach Road Boutique in Englewood on Aug. 26. Arrested was Karl William Recine, 25, of the 100 block of Annapolis Avenue, Rotonda. CCSO received an alarm call to the business at 1350 Beach Road at 4 a.m. and discovered front windows had been smashed out, the front door unlocked, and cash stolen from a secured area. Blood was discovered on a glass pane on the door and also on a cabinet. CCSO crime scene technicians swabbed the blood for DNA. Crime Scene received a DNA match to Recine from the national CODIS database.
Detectives located Recine at his home and took him to the Englewood District Office for questioning. Recine said he would “plea the Fifth” and then requested his lawyer. He was then transported to the Charlotte County Jail on charges of felony burglary, grand theft, and possession of burglary tools. He posted a $7,500 bond and was released.
