One of city’s first commissioners dies
Dick Weatherly
Joking there weren’t enough residents in North Port to fill seats on the board, Richard Kenneth Weatherly, a salesman with Mackle Brothers, became one of the first city commissioners.
Weatherly, who was a real estate salesman selling homes for $10 down and $10 a month in the General Development community — now known as the oldest section of North Port — served the city after it was incorporated on June 19, 1959.
