County’s website compromised
ARCADIA — The DeSoto County website was compromised in November but it was a part of the site that holds no sensitive information. Because the incident “was a minor thing,” county officials deemed no investigation was warranted.
“The website is set up on an independent server,” said County Coordinator Mandy Hines. “They (the hackers) went in and whatever happened, they left us a virus. The programming was compromised on the back end of the website. That server is not behind a firewall. Someone certainly manipulated the information so that we cannot get in and do certain things. But no sensitive information was compromised. We were in the process of rebuilding our website, anyway, so this just expedited it,” she said.
