SARASOTA COUNTY — A Fort Myers Beach man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding was struck by a car on U.S. 41 north of River Road.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, David Hawk, 55, was driving his 1993 Harley-Davidson south on 41 just before 4:30 p.m. on Christmas day. Teodoro Guzman-Neri, 26, of Venice, was behind Hawk in a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird as the two vehicles approached the intersection with River Road, but was traveling at a higher rate of speed. As the two vehicles approached the intersection in the inside left lane, Guzman-Neri, who according to the report had been drinking, failed to slow down or stop, and collided with the back of Hawk’s motorcycle. Hawk was thrown from the bike, according to the report, and the Harley lodged under the front of the Pontiac. Guzman-Neri turned south onto River Road, and the motorcycle became dislodged and caught on fire, the report shows. Hawk, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton with serious injuries. Guzman-Neri was stopped in the 900 block of River Road and arrested. Guzman-Neri was charged with DUI, DUI with serious bodily injury, DUI with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury and no driver’s license. He remained at the Sarasota County Jail Wednesday on $32,500 bond.
