PUNTA GORDA — Since it first fluttered back to life two years ago, the building industry here doubled in sales last year and appears on track to gain even more steam in 2013, several builders and the city’s building official said last week.

Already since this fiscal year began Oct. 1, the number of building inspections has shot up 30 percent over the same period in 2012, according to Punta Gorda building official Randy Cole.
