ENGLEWOOD — The Lemon Bay High School girls basketball team couldn’t overcome a slow start and fell to Venice 54-50 on Saturday in a nondistrict contest.

The Indians jumped to a 12-6 first-quarter advantage, and led most of the way from there. Lemon Bay (14-7) had trouble making shots early, but battled back in the third quarter to tie the score twice before the Indians (8-13) went ahead to stay.
