PUNTA GORDA — Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man wanted in connection with a stabbing incident Thursday at a Port Charlotte gas station. Arrested was Richard Allen Foist, 24, of the 21900 block of Hernando Avenue, Port Charlotte. CCSO received a tip Saturday that Foist was at the Winn-Dixie in Promenades Mall, 3280 Tamiami Trail. Deputies arrived and located Foist, who at first said he was Mark A. Wayne. A check showed no records found. He then said his identification was in his car. Deputies went outside to look for the car, which wasn’t there. Foist then said his girlfriend must have left in the vehicle. Foist was asked to empty his pockets and deputies located a photo identification as being Richard Foist.

Also in Foist’s pockets was a pill bottle with a woman’s name on it. Foist grabbed the bottle and took off running. A foot pursuit began and another deputy stopped him as he approached Aaron Street. Inside the bottle that was recovered, deputies located various quantities of morphine, hydromorphone, valium and alprazolam. They also found three access (food stamp) cards in his possession that did not belong to him. On Friday, CCSO issued a press release about the stabbing and hit-and-run incident at the Marathon gas station at the corner of U.S. 41 and Port Charlotte Boulevard. A photo of Foist was issued. Foist was with Ronald Wayne Peyton, 30, of the 21900 block of Felton Avenue, Port Charlotte, in a Ford pickup. Four other people were at the station in a car. Foist told the victim that he didn’t like him hanging out with his ex-girlfriend. Foist pulled out a flip open locking knife and lunged at the victim, cutting his chest. Foist ran and got into the pickup driven by Peyton and they fled the scene after hitting a 56-year-old woman, knocking her into a pole. She was treated and released from a hospital. Deputies, K-9 and helicopter were called and located Peyton about two hours later. Foist was not in the pickup. Peyton was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Peyton remains in the Charlotte County Jail on $80,000 bond. Foist was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of and several drug and related charges. Foist remains in jail on no bond.
