Martha Bireda, executive director of the Blanchard House museum in Punta Gorda, believes the Martin Luther King Jr. community breakfast serves a dual purpose — honoring a pioneer in social justice, and educating those in attendance.

This year, the seventh annual breakfast is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at Punta Gorda Middle School, where the winners of a student essay contest will speak.
