Boats burn in Punta Gorda

PUNTA GORDA — Five boats caught fire and sent plumes of smoke into the sky over Punta Gorda Sunday afternoon.

The boats were stored at Gator Creek Marine, 5000 Deltona Drive, according to Charlotte County Fire/EMS spokeswoman Dee Hawkins. Units from Charlotte County and Punta Gorda responded and put out the fire. No one was injured.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, Hawkins said.
