St. Charles school to hold open house Sunday
PORT CHARLOTTE — Prospective families are welcome to an open house Sunday at St. Charles Borromeo School.
The event is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school, 21505 Augusta Ave. (behind St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, off Easy Street).
The private school, which enrolls students in prekindergarten (4 years old) through eighth grade, dates to 1960 and is the only Catholic school in Charlotte County, according to school literature. Students and their families do not have to be Catholic to attend.
Sunday’s open house will feature guided tours by current parents and staff members, with refreshments to follow in the church’s adjacent Parish Center. Families should check in and register when they arrive.
Tuition assistance is available, and families who complete school registration at the open house can receive $100 off the registration fee, according to new principal Gina Groch.
Groch, who took over the post Jan. 7, most recently hails from Naples, and has been an educator with the Diocese of Venice in Florida (of which both Naples and Port Charlotte are a part) for 16 years.
So far, Groch has only good things to say about St. Charles, from the high level of parent involvement, to the wealth of enrichment opportunities available for students, to the beautifully landscaped campus, and beyond. Although it’s the students themselves who seem to have impressed her the most.
“I love it — I absolutely love it,” Groch said of her new position. “It’s a fabulous school. The kids are incredible — the things they know, their actions and demeanor toward one another. (They have) far exceeded my expectations.”
