Sarasota gets glowing reviews on procurement
SARASOTA COUNTY — National Institute of Governmental Purchasing officials raved about the progress of the scandal-ridden Sarasota County Procurement Department in a presentation to county commissioners Wednesday.
Nearly two years ago, the county’s purchasing system came under scrutiny after the March 2011 arrest of county employee Rodney Jones on corruption charges. After Jones’ arrest, he and nine other county employees, including former county administrator Jim Ley, either resigned, retired or were fired as a result of various probes. At least four of the departures were related to county-issued credit-card misuse.
